Microsoft has filed for a patent regarding 28 ways to mine cryptocurrency by "monitoring people's brain activity and other personal biometric data ...". You can read about it here:
Not addressed in the report is just who would own the cryptocurrency covered by this patent; but one thing is certain - Microsoft would own all the methods, so the miners at least would have to pay the company a fee for the mining rights.
I always thought a patent could not be granted unless a working model was produced. Apparently, for this kind of tech stuff all you have to do is imagine something and put it in writing.
