Of particular interest are these sentences:
People often garble Charles Darwin’s central thesis on evolution, reducing it to “survival of the fittest,” when his research actually demonstrated that it’s actually about the survival of the most adaptable.
“That’s what you’ve got to be, especially in this economy,” Martin said. “Are you prepared to accept the challenge and do something about it?”
I think it is a mistake to mix the survival of the living dead (a.k.a. corporations) with the survival of living organisms. Being "adaptable" in the sense used in this story means going anywhere on the globe just to get an advantage.
When a living organism does this, it often decimates the local species. And that is exactly what "adaptable" corporations do. And they also decimate the living populations of the areas they have left.
Bottom line: The global economy is rearranging itself to ensure the survival of the living dead. It cares not at all about the survival of living populations. In most cases, we will have to die so they can survive.
What kind of world is that?
