Here is the latest report on the resistance from The Stimulator:

If you look closely during the part about rail transport of tar sands oil (@ 10:40, in the upper right hand corner of your screen), you can see several large yellow mountains of sulfur at one of the refineries. Seldom is this mentioned anywhere, but the accumulation of huge amounts of sulfur in this manner is bound to have a negative environmental impact down the road.
Do you suppose the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline will make things any better? I dunno, but I cannot see how it will. Tar sands oil needs to be kept hot to reduce its viscosity for transport and storage, so in addition to emissions from the oil itself there will be emissions from the fuel burned to keep it warm. And any pipeline break is likely to be much worse than a train derailment in terms of environmental impact.
NIMBY please.
By the way, have you noticed how there is push-back against our neoliberal policies in most countries outside the US but virtually no resistance from US citizens? I think that's because we believe the myth that voting gives us a voice and/or the ability to actually change things. What a joke!
