Here is a disturbing report with 12 graphs showing how the working class is being hammered out of existence:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-11-07/death-working-class-12-charts
Add to these trends the anticipation that half of all occupations will be gone in a decade:
http://sainthoward.blogspot.com/2014/11/half-of-all-occupations-gone-in-ten.html
... and then throw in the prediction that robots or software will eliminate 50-70% of all traditional jobs in 10-30 years:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-22/half-of-europe-s-jobs-threatened-by-machines-in-u-s-risk-echo.html

... and you have a consistent picture that life as we know it, or at least the job employment part of life, is rapidly undergoing fundamental change.
Scan the Internet and you will find lots of reports and essays which confirm these trends, but few which predict what will happen to the growing human population (~10 billion) which then will have no way to support themselves, except perhaps through subsistence farming. But with the growing trend for the rich and corporations to buy up all the arable land around the world, even that means of survival will be difficult if not impossible.
We are on the brink of catastrophic changes to the quantity and quality of human life. Maybe this would be the ideal time for the Messiah to make His presence known, because I cannot think of any reasonable human response to this crisis that will not involve immense suffering and death.
