Surprise, surprise !!! Middle aged Americans are killing themselves in record numbers:

This reminds me of what happened in the former USSR, and probably the same dynamics were in play. They got "liberated" from Communism, and then started killing themselves in droves. In our case, we got "liberated" from our jobs and our retirement funds, and the same thing happened.
