SCOTUS Ignores Constitution

No doubt you've seen at least one version of this report:

The Supreme Court on Tuesday shot down a conservative theory that could have given state lawmakers extraordinary power to set election rules in their states with little oversight from courts, balking at an idea that voting rights groups worried could further erode trust in the nation's elections.

What is this "extraordinary power" of which they speak? Here it is, in plain language in the US Constitution:

Article I, Section 4

1. The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

Clearly, each state has the power to set its own election rules UNLESS Congress enacts a law overriding or altering them.

Also CLEARLY Congress did NOT so act AND the alterations made to the rules in several of the States for the 2020 election were NOT approved by their Legislatures.

I don't see how SCOTUS could be more wrong on this issue. They seem to have gone out of their way on several occasions to help get rid of Trump, either refusing to rule or making seemingly ridiculous rulings on issues related to the election.

I find it interesting that Israelis have been demonstrating against so-called "judicial reform" which will hamstring their highest court, while US citizens are meekly accepting the acts and non-acts (and apparent corruption) of their own.

Just another episode in the downfall of our "banana republic"? I don't know what else to call it.

Update - 7/5/2013

Here is additional discussion which includes the selection of Electors:

I agree with the author 100%, except for one issue - we do NOT need a new constitution, we need to start following the one we have.

My assessment is that the US Constitution was crafted to prevent the kind of BS we're now seeing in our elections. For the Supreme Court to go along with that BS is a disgrace which stinks to high heaven.
