I watched the movie The Celestine Prophecy last night. No, I have never read the book.
A few things occurred to me while watching the film:
1. The "prophecies" do not appear to be in conflict with the Bible. Indeed, they are quite concordant with the Book of Revelation and other passages.
2. I heard echoes of things mentioned by Leo Tolstoy in his book The Kingdom of God Is Within You.
3. Although it appeared the Catholic Church and the Peruvian authorities were the main antagonists in the plot, it should be mentioned that the USA - especially US corporations and their neoliberal approach to the global economy - also are responsible for what happened in Central and South America. The "prophecies" are very similar to the tenets and predictions of liberation theology, which the US and its corporations regard as a threat to the "stability" needed to guarantee a return on their investments in CA/SA economies.
It should be noted that our "war on terror" and related groups such as ISIS have contributed to the extinction of Christianity in the Middle East. One has to ask whether this was intentional or accidental:
