Border Control Follies

Have you, like me, ever wondered why the US-Mexico border is so porous?

Our porous border with Mexico is 1,933 miles long (http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RS21729.pdf). How does that compare with other defended borders?

The Great Wall of China was 5,500 miles long and was relatively low tech by today's standards, but apparently was pretty darn effective (http://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/facts/how-long.htm).

The Great Wall of Morocco, built with Israeli assistance, is 1678 miles long and apparently also is pretty darn effective (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moroccan_Wall).

The Israeli Separation Wall, built by Israel and substantially paid for by US taxpayers, is 403 miles long, and apparently it is extremely effective (http://electronicintifada.net/content/it-fence-it-wall-no-its-separation-barrier/4715).

Officially all these walls were built to keep out invaders ("terrorists" in today's jargon), but their effectiveness today seems to be dependent more upon political considerations than the technology and degree of force used to maintain them:
  • Israel's Separation Wall is and will remain more or less impregnable because it allows the creation of a "Jewish State", which somehow justifies the attainment of apartheid without bringing on boycott, divestiture, and/or sanctions. It also guarantees that non-Jews can never become a majority of the voters in this so-called "democracy".
  • The US-Mexico border, on the other hand, is and will remain porous because the flood of desperate people from the south provides cheap labor to bust labor unions and enrich corporate CEOs. It also guarantees that new immigrants flooding the country eventually will overwhelm existing voters who are resisting the draconian changes the federal government wants to shove down everyone's throat.

Another noteworthy difference between the Israeli and US versions of border walls is the fate of the actual criminals and terrorists who manage to breach the walls:
  • In Israel, they are invariably caught and put into harsh prisons from which there is no escape.
  • In the US, they often are not caught, and even those who are caught are being released into the general population with little consideration for the damage they may cause.

In short, the actions of Israel and the effectiveness of their wall is consistent with their desire to create a state for Jews only; while the actions of the United States and the ineffectiveness of our wall is consistent with the desire of bankgangsters, corporations, and their accomplices in the one percent to create a market state which sets everyone at someone else's throat: young against old, women against men, gay against straight, rich against poor, immigrant against citizen - endless class warfare with the ultimate goal of destruction of our once great nation.

And the strangest part of all is that you and I are being forced to not only accept but also to pay for both of these situations. How stupid is that?
