Cub Scout Wisdom

"There is something wrong in our country where Republicans believe it's a right to own a gun but a privilege to have health care. None of that makes sense to me," he said.

Dear Ames - Yes, something is wrong. But you clearly have never read and/or understood the US Constitution, and I find it strange that you can be a Cub Scout yet not understand your nation's founding document. Don't the Scouts and/or your school system cover that topic?

By the way, when I was born the nation spent far less on "health care" than it does today. Doctors still made house calls, and my parents' relatively modest income was more than enough to pay for whatever medical care we needed. Drug companies didn't gouge us, and doctors didn't all drive Maseratis, Porsches, and Teslas.

And girls weren't allowed to join the Cub Scouts.

Update:

Dear Ames - Here are some additional thoughts:

The difference between a right and a privilege usually involves money (i.e., who gets to pay for it).

Gun ownership is a right, but the government doesn't buy you a gun; you have to pay for it yourself.

People who say health care is a right usually want someone else to pay for it (i.e., not the patient receiving the health care product or service).

I've got no problem with you or anyone else calling health care a "right". Just don't ask me to pay for YOUR health care.

Capisce?
