Robert E. Lee

Is this the latest anti-Trump screed?

The president claimed he had spoken to active-duty generals who told him that Lee, a U.S. Army officer who defected to the Confederate side and led the Army of Northern Virginia, was their "favorite general."

It is mostly inaccurate to think the Civil War was fought over slavery. And I think that many can see that it didn't end slavery, either.

Lee did not "defect to the Confederate side". He chose to remain loyal to Virginia, which at the time considered herself to be a sovereign state.

And if Lee was a "traitor", then why wasn't he tried for treason and executed after the war? Didn't Lincoln himself support forgiving and bringing the rebels back into the fold?

What are we becoming? And why are people who are ignorant of US history seemingly in charge of what we will be?
