Ya know what? I more or less agree. If state and local elected officials won't protect their own citizens, I see no reason for the feds (i.e., We the People) to pay for the consequences of that failure. As Abe Lincoln once said, "If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher." What's happening in Portland is more or less what he meant.
By the way, I suggest you read the entire essay. Erickson makes a lot of great points.
