Snowden Doesn't Like Bitcoin

Here is a crappy translation of an interesting report in the German Business News:

The former CIA employee and whistleblower Edward Snowden has described Bitcoin as "not safe". He also praised the competing cryptowogy Zcash (abbreviation ZEC) because, in contrast to Bitcoin, this could ensure the privacy of the users.

Snowden made these comments in response to a Twitter user who wrote, "Zcash is the only Altcoin I know, designed and programmed by professional and academic cryptographers. Difficult to ignore."

Snowden then said, "Approval. Because of its data protection technology, Zcash is the most interesting Bitcoin alternative. Bitcoin is great, but if it's not secret, it's not safe."

In fact, Bitcoin is not really anonymous. Because all transactions are recorded with the recipient address and all the addresses of the sender in the blockchain for all eternity.

It is possible to anonymously set up a wallet and receive transactions without specifying its name. But if you buy Bitcoin over one of the exchanges and with Fiat money paid, at least the stock market is the name known and this can be forced by the authorities to give the name out.

OK, Ed - I get your point. But since the "cashless society" thugs really WANT to be able to track all transactions, they're not likely to promote a cryptocurrency which guarantees our privacy. In fact, they're likely to call for such a thing to be outlawed.
