A recent report showed that all our efforts in Afghanistan were for naught - the country inevitably would have collapsed as soon as we left (and did):
The Chinese are building a global trade network. All we're doing is leaving a trail of destruction and failed states - Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Venezuela, and the list goes on.
What the hell do we think we're doing?
