Here is a pitch for making climate change "the moonshot of our times":
http://nautil.us/blog/climate-change-is-the-moonshot-of-our-times
The author leaves out an important comparison of the two: not only is there evidence that fakery played a part in both phenomena (i.e., did we really go to the moon and how much of the temperature data has been altered to support the global warming hypothesis?), there is also the question of whether going to the moon accomplished anything good for humanity ... and whether this "the sky is falling" hysteria over climate change will help accomplish anything good either.
In both cases, it wasn't (won't be) until after the Rubicon has been crossed and the money has been spent that we can discover whether doing so resulted in any benefit.
That doesn't sound like a good deal to me.
