Here is a very poignant essay by Chris Hedges about the death of Tomas Young:

It should give you an inkling about what the American government really thinks about its fallen heroes.

Granted, Tomas was extremely critical of Bush and Cheney:

You may evade justice but in our eyes you are each guilty of egregious war crimes, of plunder and, finally, of murder, including the murder of thousands of young Americans—my fellow veterans—whose future you stole.

But you should ask yourself how you would feel had you suffered his fate.
