There is an interesting comparison to be made here:
- In Mexico, protesters promise to burn down 43 government buildings - one for each of the 43 missing students. In some places, such threats and actions against injustice are applauded and the protesters are considered to be heroes.
- In the US, when people like Timothy McVeigh and the protesters in Ferguson, MO, revolt against what they believe to be injustice, they are treated like criminals and/or terrorists and are assaulted by police and/or arrested, prosecuted, tried, and in some cases executed.
Why the difference? The US has perfected the practice of counterinsurgency. By persuading us that people who say they're trying to free us are criminals, "our" government defuses any and all uprisings and protects the power of bankgangsters, corporations, and their collaborators in the one percent.
The solution? It's not violence, as suggested by The Stimulator. From my perspective, only non-violent movements have the potential to liberate us.
Unfortunately, the willingness of US authorities to crush non-violent groups makes it extremely difficult for them to succeed.
