Earthquake In Texas

Yesterday there was a 5.3/5.4 earthquake in West Texas:

It occurred withing 50 miles of the nuclear corridor in New Mexico which extends eastward to encompass the Texas nuclear waste storage site:

It also was fairly close to the West Texas oil fields:

Perhaps this isn't a great area to store high level nuclear waste after all.

Those of you who still think nuclear, oil, and gas are a great idea ought to consider what will happen when this waste leaks out into the Ogallala Aquifer. And it will, probably much faster than predicted by the models used to license the facilities in the nuclear corridor.

Should you disagree, take a look at what happened to the Barnwell, SC waste disposal site. It wasn't supposed to leak, either. But it did, which is why Texas now has to store its own waste.

Not a good omen for such a sensitive area.
