Here is a rather foolish op-ed in The New York Times:
Trump is about to take over a $1 billion government P.R. machine.
$ $ $ $ $ $ $ $
A healthy democracy depends on the provision of government information. Elected leaders cannot be held accountable if citizens don’t know their policies and plans, and their progress in implementing them. Government must be transparent about how much it spends, and for what.

Maybe they should read this crap before they publish it.
In the first place, that "P.R. machine" costs far more than $1 billion. Add in a portion of the budgets of the CIA, FBI, NSA, several other agencies, and the entire MSM, and you might come close to its actual cost.
In the second place, the NYT didn't seem to give a damn when that machine was used endlessly and shamelessly by Obama ad-Dajjal, Hillary, and several other presidents whom they liked - even when those "leaders" were committing mass murder.
In the third place, we have no idea how much "our" government is spending, and we never will. Black budgets abound, and with the exception of the revelations of Assange, Manning, and Snowden we seldom discover what "our" government is really doing.
This new Russia scare hopefully represents the death rattle of the old order. Should it instead mean a resurgence of the war party, there is no way ours should be considered a "healthy democracy". It's little more than a military junta controlled by oligarchs, bankgangsters, and corporate CEOs who cloak their foul deeds with the trappings of "democracy".
And frankly it always has been.
