The US government's strategy for Ebola appears to be based upon two debatable "facts":
- Asyptomatic patients are not contagious, and
- The virus is not airborne.
If either (or both) of these "facts" is false, then the strategy is seriously flawed.
It's worth noting that the 160,000 hazmat suits ordered by the State Department are of a type used with airborne viruses and represent costly overkill if the virus is not airborne. So, they are at least preparing for it to go airborne even if they're unwilling to admit it:
Update: According to this report there is compelling evidence that the virus may become airborne and/or can be transmitted via aerosols, which means that "fact" #2 above is wrong:
Is the government lying? That depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.
