SAMs For Subs ???

According to this report, the US Navy is considering putting surface-to-air missiles on our submarines:

When I attended the Submarine Officer Advanced Course in a former life, I did a research project on a similar weapon. My fellow submarine officers all thought such a SAM was a very bad idea. Why? Because as soon as it is launched it reveals the sub's position.

That, of course, is a problem with ALL submarine launched weapons, and it is a risk all submariners have to take. 

But I fear the current generation of submariners has been lulled into a false sense of security. For too long, we haven't faced an enemy with any meaningful anti-submarine capabilities. We've been shooting fish in a barrel.

Someday the fish will shoot back, and when they do we will lose some subs ... and some surface ships, including aircraft carriers. Will that be cause for starting World War III ??? I hope not, but with the current bunch of crazies in the White House anything is possible.

And don't expect the NEXT bunch of crazies to be much different. The Pentagon and their backers in corporate America and the MSM appear to be running the show.
