The excess capacity of wind and solar power plants will be converted into hydrogen in the Netherlands from next year. The Dutch infrastructure company Gasunie wants to store the energy and distribute it over the existing gas pipeline network. Gasunie has now joined the North Sea Wind Power Hub consortium, which is planning an international wind farm on an artificial island in the North Sea.
Renewable energy storage is a prerequisite for becoming independent of fossil fuels. The electrolysis of water to hydrogen now makes it possible to use the overproduction of current in strong winds or sunshine and to compensate for fluctuations in the mains voltage, for example, during windstill or at night. Hydrogen can be distributed over the conventional gas lines and can also be used without emissions for industry or transport. According to Gasunie, this makes it an ideal, sustainable source of energy.

Very cool idea !!!
Note well the US seems VERY far behind the rest of the world when it comes to energy innovation.
