In that post I asked the following "leading" questions:
Here are some questions which spring from Roger Cohen's essay:
- Does anyone really think that ISIS understands theater better than does Hollywood?
- Does anyone really think that "untruth so grotesque it begets unreason" describes Putin better than it describes Obama ad-Dajjal?
- Does anyone really think that the UK is "the most successful union in history"?
- Does anyone really think that the US ever gave up on the idea of being the world's policeman?
- Does anyone really think the world's reaction to Israeli genocide of the Palestinians is "anti-Semitism"?
- Does anyone really think we ever had the intention of "connecting the dots"?
Yesterday I posted these questions as a comment on another blog that featured Mr. Cohen's essay. I got a barrage of vile comments in response. They all were insults which in one form or another made the following claim: that what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians is not "genocide".
Well ... let's look at the definition of genocide:
The international legal definition of the crime of genocide is found in Articles II and III of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.
Article II describes two elements of the crime of genocide:
1) the mental element, meaning the "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such", and
2) the physical element which includes five acts described in sections a, b, c, d and e. A crime must include both elements to be called "genocide."
Article III described five punishable forms of the crime of genocide: genocide; conspiracy, incitement, attempt and complicity.
http://www.preventgenocide.org/genocide/officialtext.htm
The five acts described in sections a, b, c, d and e are these:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
Have the Israelis exhibited the mental element described above? They apparently have, and several examples can be found here:

and
http://www.intifada-palestine.com/2014/08/concentrate-exterminate-israel-parliament-deputy-speakers-gaza-genocide-plan/
Have the Israelis committed the physical elements described above? The entire conduct of "Operation Protective Edge" provides numerous examples of how they indeed have done so.
So why would an otherwise intelligent blogger (allegedly a "professor" of some sort) and his devoted readers maintain that Israel was not committing genocide ... and even angrily defend the Israelis?
My assessment is that Americans and Israelis invented the excuse that "the rockets" and "the tunnels" justified everything the Israelis did to the Palestinians. A few rockets which caused minimal damage and casualties in Israel justified thousands of injuries and deaths and billions of dollars of damage in Gaza? You must be joking.
People who believe this excuse are being intellectually dishonest. They refuse to take responsibility for America's Second Genocide (complicity in the killing of the Palestinians), just as many have refused to take responsibility for America's First Genocide (the intentional killing of North American Indians).
What do you call such people? Is "holocaust denier" a strong enough term? Or are they actually complicit in genocide of Palestinians?
You decide.
By the way, if you should need additional proof that Israel is committing genocide, you can find it here (and several other places should you choose to look):
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/holocaust-survivors-and-their-descendants-accuse-israel-of-genocide-9687994.html
Don't be alarmed when the "holocaust deniers" call you "willfully ignorant". Their mentality appears to be identical to that of the Germans (including "professors") who joyously defended the killing of the Jews of Europe.
