It should be clear the US not only does NOT intend to EVER get rid of our nuclear weapons, but the feds would rather starve us to death than give them up. If we continue down this path, we'll eventually have to end Social Security and Medicare, but the weapons gravy train apparently will continue ... forever. I don't think that's a fair tradeoff. Do you?
By the way, years ago the GAO upbraided the DOE for its failure to provide adequate oversight and controls when they implemented a new accounting system for fissionable material (e.g., weapons grade plutonium). One would think everything associated with nuclear weapons would be treated with the utmost care and security, but apparently that's not the case.
