What Our Symbols Are Telling Us

I went to college during the Vietnam War. This symbol was popular then, and it stood for peace and love:

Now this symbol has become popular, and in one sense it also stands for peace and compassion:

Both symbols invoke feelings toward an oppressor and the oppressed. But the identity of those two entities has changed in the past 50 years.

The peace sign of the 60s represented We The People (all peoples everywhere) as the oppressed, and The Establishment (governments of the US and other colonial powers) as the oppressor.

The Paris peace sign of 11/13/2015 represents We The People of the West as the oppressed, the Muslim world as the oppressor, and The Establishment (governments of the US and other "former" colonial powers) as our SAVIOR.

Q: How did our former oppressor somehow become our savior?

A: He didn't. He merely gave you a patsy to blame, upon whom you can vent all your rage, while he masquerades as your savior, all the while tightening the screws of his control over ever aspect of your lives.

Certainly, whoever carried out these attacks is your enemy ... but how can someone who takes away your freedoms in response to the attacks be your friend?

He can't, and you know it.
