Oil Bouncing Back In 2018

If you haven’t heard by now, 2017 ends with oil prices well breaching the $60 a barrel mark leaving producers much more confident as they head into 2018.

This is a boon on two fronts for the world’s biggest oil producers Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The Russians over the past three-and-a-half years have weathered the storm of crude oil prices plummeting from over $100 a barrel to $26 a barrel at one point.

To make matters worse, they were hit with punitive EU and American sanctions over the Ukraine crisis at the same time leaving their economists struggling to find an alternative path for economic growth.

After a number of state and banking interventions, the Russians were able to bounce back from the recession zone in late 2016, and from March of 2017 largely because they had rearranged their economy and based it on the $40 threshold.

Good for Russia, bad for us.

Q: Why hasn't the US invaded Venezuela to take over their reserves?

A: The powers that be want them to suffer for a few more years before doing that, apparently to "prove" that socialism doesn't work.

By the way, socialism doesn't work because the powers that be have the tools to guarantee it won't work.

Trump Confused About Middle East

Since setting out his plan for Afghan escalation, President Trump has repeatedly criticized Pakistan for not doing enough to support the US war. On Monday, Trump accused Pakistan of having played the US for fools in the course of foreign aid, getting $33 billion for “nothing.”

Dear Donald - It is the Israelis who have played us for fools, getting $130 billion in foreign aid and much more in loan guarantees ... all in exchange for NOTHING (except the spit they constantly hurl at our faces):

In addition, Israel has and continues to kill US citizens with impunity. What's up with that?

And why do you expect Pakistan to help us, when you and Obama ad-Dajjal have been killing hundreds of their citizens?

You, sir, are a dumbass. So is the US Congress, for giving this money to countries which are NOT our friends and which will NEVER be our friends.

Another Israeli Land Grab

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud Party unanimously urged legislators in a non-binding resolution on Sunday to effectively annex Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, land that Palestinians want for a future state.

It won't be long until a "peace process" is no longer needed. What the world will still need, however, is a way to deal with the millions of Palestinians soon to be permanently ejected from their former lands.

I have a strong suspicion that Israel has no workable solution to THAT particular problem. Maybe they can get their new friend MBS to house them in Saudi Arabia.

Scientific Breakthroughs In 2017

Here are what may be the most important scientific breakthroughs of the past year (see the link below for a larger version of this graphic):

Note well that none of them appear to address the problem of too many humans choking our planet to death. Shouldn't that be a priority in the new year?

More Death In 2018 ???

US intelligence agencies have given Israel the green light to assassinate the senior Iranian responsible for coordinating military activity on behalf of the Islamic Republic in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Jarida.

I am SO HAPPY to live in a country whose leaders think they can kill anyone they want, for whatever reason  ... or for no reason. Aren't you?

Advice From Pope Francis

Pope Francis on Monday recommended jettisoning life’s “useless baggage” in 2018, including what he called “empty chatter” and banal consumerism, and focusing instead on building a peaceful and welcoming world, particularly for refugees and migrants.

Francis offered his reflections on paring down non-essentials as he celebrated New Year’s Day Mass Monday in St. Peter’s Basilica and later greeted some 40,000 people in St. Peter’s Square.

His advice included setting aside a moment of silence daily to be with God. Doing so would help “keep our freedom from being corroded by the banality of consumerism, the blare of commercials, the stream of empty words and the overpowering waves of empty chatter and loud shouting,” Francis said.

“At the beginning of the year, we too, as Christians on our pilgrim way, feel the need to set out anew from the center, to leave behind the burdens of the past and to start over from the things that really matter,” he said.

Amen to that !!! And turn off your cell phones.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Saudis Bomb Yemeni Restaurant

The latest in a series of Saudi airstrikes killing a number of civilian bystanders in Yemen saw warplanes attack a popular restaurant in the port of Hodeidah on Saturday, killing at least 20 and wounding a number of others.

The attacks, in the al-Jarrahi District, targeted the crowded restaurant and destroyed three taxi cabs that were parked outside. Everyone in the cabs was killed, and dozens of other casualties were reported in the restaurant.

Saudi officials offered no indication why the strikes targeted the restaurant, though this isn’t particularly surprising, as the Saudis have rarely offered comments in recent weeks related to their strikes that kill civilians.

It's likely they used planes and the bombs purchased from the USA.

Who gives a damn that the Saudi crown prince wants to "modernize" his country if THIS is the result?
