Golden Age Of Private Prisons

Here is a revealing report in Spiegel Online:

The Obama administration moved to phase out private prisons in the United States, but Donald Trump has now reversed those policies. A boom in the industry is expected and investors are thrilled.

The stock market in the United States has been rallying since Donald Trump's election as president in November, with the Dow Jones Index breaking the 22,000-point mark in August, its third record in a short stretch of time. Yet the extent to which Trump is fueling the upward trend and how long it will last is debatable. Some are already warning of the inevitability of a crash.

Either way, Deutsche Bank has discovered at least two crisis-proof investments. In a recent analyst report, the bank said it was bullish about the prospects for a pair of U.S. companies for which it recently issued "buy" recommendations. These companies are CoreCivic (CXW) and GEO Group, the two largest operators of private prisons in the United States.

Punishment has its place, but it clearly has not reduced the level of crime in the US. It almost looks like drugs are allowed across our border for the express purpose of destroying our nation by hooking and imprisoning as many people as possible.

Cui bono? Not We The People, that's for sure.

A Tale Of Two Janitors

One worked for Eastman Kodak, the other is a contract employee over at Apple:

“Think about the contrast between George Eastman, who pioneered fundamental innovations in photography, and Steve Jobs,” Mr. Summers wrote in 2014. “While Eastman’s innovations and their dissemination through the Eastman Kodak Co. provided a foundation for a prosperous middle class in Rochester for generations, no comparable impact has been created by Jobs’s innovations” at Apple.

The corporation created by Steve Jobs is a temple to selfishness. And his successors at Apple, Facebook, and Google have vastly expanded his legacy. Thanks to them (and others, of course) the US middle class is dead.

Still Imitating Nikola Tesla

What the author leaves out is that Tesla probably intended his wireless power to be "free" to its users. This is something his modern imitators won't ever consider, meaning that Tesla's unfinished masterpiece NEVER will become a reality. At least not the way he intended it.

My advice? When you think Tesla, the words "genius" and "saint" ought to come to mind. And I don't mean Elon Musk.

FDR may have put the nation back to work, but no one is going to do it now. And the swine known as "Democrats" seem to take pride in that fact.

Exchanging Needles

Here is a common US activity - exchanging needles:

All day long, the users of Alaska's biggest syringe exchange arrive carrying detergent jugs and Gatorade bottles stuffed with used needles.

Some come in shiny trucks, others in beat-up vehicles. Some cruise up to the quiet office building on bikes. Some walk, sweating and chilled from withdrawals. A few arrive in work clothes, as if they've stepped out from an office or a construction site. Others wear pajamas.

Unless you're an injection drug user or you work or live nearby, you might never realize that more than 100 Alaskans come to this building on Fireweed Lane every weekday to pick up clean needles and other supplies for injection drug use.

Would a healthy society need such a thing? I think not.

The US is a "death state", and our preoccupation with things like illegal drugs, violence, death, and "burning man" seems to prove it.
