Gov. Greg Abbott and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Laredo Democrat, pressed the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Monday to explain why the agency plans to reduce its aerial surveillance on the Texas-Mexico border.
In a letter to DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, the lawmakers said the cut to a requested 3,850 hours of aerial detection and monitoring in 2016 amounts to 50 percent less coverage than recent years.
“Given the recent surge of migrants from Central America and Cuba along the southern border, we believe DHS should request more surveillance and security resources, not fewer,” Abbott and Cuellar wrote in a letter.

Apparently opening the border kills several birds with one stone - unions are busted, wages are driven down, drug money continues to flow into the right coffers, new voters are added to the roles, and the once proud nation state of the USA is destabilized even further.

“It probably depends on the definition of ‘war,'” Newton-Fisher says by email. “There’s good evidence that chimpanzees conduct deliberate raids on neighbouring communities, and that this can lead to annexing of territory."

Take away the nation state factor and the human bias, and it seems clear to me that other animals do indeed go to war. And since it's mainly "hand-to-hand combat", their wars are just as brutal as ours.
The refugee story has hardly begun. There will be, on conservative estimates, another million arriving via Turkey this year – and maybe more. The distribution quotas proposed by Germany, and resisted by many states in eastern Europe, are already a fiction and will fade into insignificance as the next wave comes.
Germany itself will face critical choices: if you’re suddenly running a budget deficit to meet the needs of asylum seekers, how do you justify not spending on the infrastructure that’s supposed to serve German citizens, which has crumbled through underinvestment in the Angela Merkel era?

All around the world (with the possible exception of China and Russia) refugees will continue to be the big issue this year.
Germany claims that Donald Trump is the most dangerous man in the world (see http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/donald-trump-is-the-most-dangerous-man-in-the-world-a-1075060.html), but most of the developed world will see the rise of nationalistic movements as the tide of refugees and other migrants swells.
When nation states collapse and market states take their place, everything will be judged in terms of its market value. Refugees have a market value when they can be used to destabilize nation states, forcing those bankrupt entities to sell off their assets in a vain attempt to keep themselves alive. But once the market states have fallen, refugees (and everyone else who doesn't have a job) will be considered useless eaters.
Trump has not and will not kill anyone. The leaders of the coming markets states will be complicit in the starvation of millions, if not trillions of people.
Caught colluding with the Pentagon and endorsing the CIA’s torture program, the American Psychological Association (APA) sent a letter to the Defense Department last year refusing to continue participation in national security interrogations. Instead of accepting the association’s new policy, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) recently responded with a veiled threat furtively blaming the APA’s nonparticipation in enhanced interrogations for any future attacks against U.S. citizens.

US Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has received a record 3.25 million individual financial contributions, more than any other candidate for the president.
Sanders’s presidential campaign raised $33.6 million in the last three months of 2015 and another $20 million in January alone, the campaign announced Sunday.
The campaign stated that 1.3 million people have made 3.25 million donations to Sanders's race, a record number of donors at this stage in a presidential campaign.
The Vermont senator’s fundraising has almost entirely come from small online contributions of $27.

American billionaire George Soros donated $6 million to a super-PAC financing US Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton last month, a report says.
Soros has now provided a total of $7 million in this election cycle to Priorities USA Action, a super-PAC which raised $41 million on behalf of Clinton in 2015, according to the committee's statement issued on Sunday.
The super-PAC raised $25.3 million during the last 6 months, and Soros's contribution accounted for almost a quarter of its funding haul.
Haim Saban, an Israeli-American media tycoon, and his wife Cheryl have contributed a total of $5 million to Clinton’s super-PAC.
Clinton has written a letter to Saban, pledging to speak out publicly against the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign aimed at Israel.
