One of Peru's presidential candidates may be a convict prior to his possible election:
By perverse coincidence, the court is expected to give its verdict in the Urresti case just as Peruvians go to the polls in the first round of April’s elections. Voters thus face not only the bizarre prospect of a presidential candidate who alternates campaigning with televised court appearances, but also the theoretical possibility of an elected president governing from prison.
He is unlikely to win, but that may not be the prime objective of his candidacy. By anointing General Urresti as his political successor, Mr. Humala seemed to exculpate a suspect under indictment. Peru’s judges are not renowned for their independence and integrity; the presidential endorsement can certainly be seen as an attempt to influence the course of justice — and indeed could compromise the trial’s impartiality.

Judge Andrew Napolitano sat down with Martha MacCallum to go over the two potential criminal investigations that the former First Lady could face.
1. The less serious possibility is an investigation similar to what was brought against Gen. David Petraeus, who pleaded guilty this week for keeping classified documents in an unsecured location. The judge explained that in Mrs. Clinton’s case, she kept classified secrets on a home server that was not secured by the government. Napolitano said there’s no way Clinton did not have classified material on her home server, since she held the same security clearance as the president. That would only be a misdemeanor charge, however.
2. Napolitano said the far more serious charge would be a conspiracy to “conceal documents from government computers,” which carries a penalty of three years in jail per document. A conviction on that charge would disqualify her from holding public office again.

While the world economy struggles to recover from the 2008 financial crisis, most of the bankers who caused the collapse are still collecting massive salaries and have faced few, if any, consequences.
Except in Iceland.
In one of the countries hit hardest by the collapse, 29 bankers have now been sentenced to prison for their roles in the crash. According to, Stefan Simanowitz, writing for The Huffington Post on Jan. 5, “Just before Christmas, the former CEO of Iceland’s Glitnir bank and two other senior bankers were sentenced to jail terms of up to five years for market manipulation and breach of fiduciary duties.”
Simanowitz questioned why the United States and the United Kingdom, for example, have been far more lenient on their banks.
“[N]ot a single senior banking executive in the US or the UK has been jailed for their role in the financial crisis. Whilst banks — such as the five found to be rigging the Libor rate — have been hit with substantial fines, the individual bankers behind the fraud, market rigging and irresponsible lending that led to the economic meltdown have all avoided time behind bars.”

If you're under the age of 40, there is a good chance you will achieve 'electronic immortality' during your lifetime.
This is the idea that all of your thoughts and experiences will be uploaded and stored online for future generations.
That's according to a futurologist who not only believes technology will let humans merge with computers, that this will create an entirely new species called Homo optimus.
And, he claims this could occur as soon as 2050.
The predictions were made by Dr Ian Pearson as part of the lead up to The Big Bang Fair 2016.
He believes that within the next 35 years, humans will 'live' online, and our pets could even 'talk' to us, like real-life Furbies.
He also claims transhumanism – the idea we can make people technologically better – will be the norm by 2050.
'With optimised genomes and bodies enhanced by links to external technology, people could be more beautiful ... more intelligent, more emotionally sophisticated, more physically able, more socially connected, generally healthier and happier all round.'
As humans embrace technological advances and gradually become androids, we could gradually see Homo sapiens being replaced by Homo optimus.

It is reasonable to assume that only the rich will be able to enjoy the benefits of transhumanism at first.
But then we must ask, "Why would they want to share this capability with the poor?" After all, they don't willingly share anything else, do they?
When Homo sapiens "replaced" Neanderthals, the process might have been better characterized as "genocide". I doubt the replacement of Homo sapiens by Homo optimus will be any more compassionate a process, or any less violent.
But if the author is right and you are under the age of 40, you will soon find out.
In the 1980s the meatpacking industry mechanized production, boosting output and slashing wages. Meat processors already faced a labor shortage as the U.S. rural population shrank and fewer Americans wanted the repetitive, dangerous jobs, the industry says. Packers turned to Mexico and the rest of Latin America for workers.
"It's like they've got a sign on the border, 'Come to Marshalltown,' " said Mike Foreman, 66, who worked at the meatpacking plant until 2000, when a back injury forced him to retire.
"The company paid them less than they paid us," he said last week at the city's senior citizens center. "The way I look at it, they're taking food out of our mouths."
Some of those who came were in the country illegally. The first recruits piling into Marshalltown were single men, mostly from Mexico. Eventually they followed a common immigrant pattern, settling down and encouraging people from back home to follow them. They got married, raised families, and some built the town's 40 Latino-related small businesses.

A while back I read the book Methland by Nick Reding which documents the drug culture of Oelwein, Iowa and how it ties into larger issues of rural flight and small town economic decline.
Mr. Reding's father was a top executive in a major agribusiness company. He claimed that US corporations indeed were advertising in Mexico for workers willing to come to the US, legally or illegally, to work in their meatpacking plants. If you read Methland, you may get the impression that US corporations literally created our immigration crisis, for the express purpose of busting unions and shedding their well paid US workforce.
Get it through your head - corporations hate We The People.
Corporations allegedly are created in the public interest, but they have changed into something which preys on the public. They have minds and legally created "bodies", but they certainly have no hearts or souls.
Corporations created TPP, TTIP, TISA, and the other "trade deals" which will destroy our nation state. Much worse is yet to come. Thank you, Hillary. Thank you, Obama ad-Dajjal.

Dr. Paul is a voice crying in the wilderness which most of us will never heed. That is a real shame.
In Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, 2016 has begun much as 2015 ended — with unacceptable levels of violence and a polarized public discourse. That polarization showed itself in the halls of the United Nations last week when I pointed out a simple truth: History proves that people will always resist occupation.
Some sought to shoot the messenger — twisting my words into a misguided justification for violence. The stabbings, vehicle rammings and other attacks by Palestinians targeting Israeli civilians are reprehensible. So, too, are the incitement of violence and the glorification of killers.

Everyone is free to pick and choose what they like or dislike from speeches. But the time has come for Israelis, Palestinians and the international community to read the writing on the wall: The status quo is untenable. Keeping another people under indefinite occupation undermines the security and the future of both Israelis and Palestinians.
